A bad boy/good girl romance with dark romance vibes, this is a sexy and intense love story with drama and heat, and it’s a strong start to a new series from Evelyn Sola.
Eden Rose is the daughter of the Sherriff in her small home town. She’s just moved back after a nasty relationship breakup, and she’s working hard to get back on her feet. Ripley King is a bad boy club owner who is dark, broody and dangerous. He has a dark past and criminal ties, and owns half of the town, but he does use his influence for good so we know he has a heart.. When Ripley saves Eden from being drugged at his club, it sparks an obsession. He wants Eden, and as a man who gets what he wants, he’s determined to claim her and he’s not going to let anything get in this way.
Ripley has all of the hallmarks of a dark romance hero – he stalks Eden (including some breaking and entering), and he’s all up in her business whenever he can be. He’s a mean bastard to everybody but her, he’s super protective and possessive, and there is nothing he will not do for his girl. It’s entertaining, and his intensity is somehow endearing and there’s something about Ripley that is irresistible
“Do something for me…?”
“What?” she whispers.
“Accept this.” I say as calmly as possible.
Eden fights against him, but the man is a tidal wave and she soon falls under his spell. The sex is hot, steamy and frequent, and the two of them fall into intense, all consuming, soul-crushing love.
“You’re my woman … My one and only. My baby. My forever.”
My breath hitches at his last declaration.
“My world. My everything. The person I would take on the world for.”
But even though Ripley and Eden have found happiness together, they still have to deal with the disapproval and judgement from their town. And leading the charge is Eden’s parents and her evil troll of a sister. There is some family drama going on, and Ripley and Eden’s father have unpleasantness in their past. None of them want to see Eden with the man they dismiss as a criminal thug and Eden is stuck in the middle of it all.
Through it all, as they fall deeply in love, I love how they follow their hearts and let themselves feel it, how strong they are, how proud they are to be together and how, despite everything standing in their way, they claim their happy.
“You woke in me a longing I never knew existed and made me want things I had no business wanting. Like a partner, a family, a lover, but only with you.”
Taking their backs through it all, Eden has the most amazing girlfriends. The three women are all up in each other’s lives and are wildly hilarious, and I’m looking forward to their stories. Ripley’s friends are just as secretive as he is, but definitely bring some entertaining moments, and I’m keen to uncover more about them. The stage is set for stories to come and I’m really excited to continue this series.
This book is a great combination of intensity, drama and soul-deep romance, with some funny moments to keep things light and real. I loved the love story and all of the little moments where we see Ripley’s soft heart, and I loved seeing these two get their happy ending.
