Paranormal / Fantasy – YA

PilesOfBooksAJ and Mel’s Recommendations

If you’re after escapism, there’s nothing like escaping into a whole new world for a while!

There are so many amazing paranormal and urban fantasy series out there, these are some of our favourite YAs.  All with a strong paranormal theme, and always a great romance, these books tend to feature younger (ie. high school and sometimes college-aged) characters, and the language and sexual content is more appropriate for a teenage audience.

Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout

A follow up to the fabulous Lux series (see below), this spin-off continues the story started in the original series, featuring the fabulous Luc (and a lot of cameos from the Lux crew).

The Dark Elements by Jennifer L. Armentrout

More proof that JLA can do no wrong when it comes to YA PNR.  This trilogy is about Gargoyles – yes, Gargoyles… and demons and angels, and a few others thrown in.  Sarcastic and funny with lots of drama, action and excitement (and yes, romance!), and a story that twists and turns.  A definite fave!

Archers of Avalon by Chelsea Fine

This is a fantastic trilogy with a unique supernatural element.  Laugh-out-loud funny, it’s also sensationally angsty with brilliant characters and a fun and exciting storyline.  It tends to fly under the radar a bit among the other YA paranormal reads out there, but definitely deserves some attention!

The Captive by Erica Stevens

Another little-known series that definitely deserves more attention.  Set in a world where vampires rule and humans must fight for their very survival, it’s a great mix of paranormal and dystopia where a young human girl is thrust into the vampire world and encounters the dark and broody vampire Prince Braith.
