Ian Haven and Halcyon Gilbert haven’t seen each other since Hallie’s 17th birthday…

…the same day Hallie pledged she would never, ever speak to Ian again as long as she lived.

Hallie Gilbert has had an especially awful year. When her husband of five years left her, Hallie’s 4-year-old daughter, Jenny, essentially stopped speaking. Add to this, Hallie had to sell her Boston apartment to pay her husband’s exorbitant credit card bills. What Hallie needs is an uncomplicated autumn at Colby Cottage, her family’s summer home in Sandwich, NH, where she and Jenny can re-group and figure out what happens next.

But Colby Cottage, located adjacent to the Summerhaven Camp, has not been well-maintained and Hallie finds it in such disrepair, it’s almost unlivable. When nearby camp owner, Rory Haven, arranges for his brother, Ian, to handle renovations for Hallie, her plans for an uncomplicated autumn suddenly get a lot more challenging.

4 stars!

“I know exactly who you are… And I want you. All of you. You take my imperfect and I’ll take yours.”

Ian Haven and Halcyon Gilbert fell in love as teenagers. Just when they think they have the future figured out, their forever is ripped from their grasps and they are left broken, their relationship destroyed and their love lost.

Ten years later, Hallie finds herself at her parent’s cottage next door to the Sumerhaven camp. Now divorced, she is determined to make a new start for her and her four-year old daughter, Jenny, and she vows to stay away from men. When Ian, the man who broke her heart, walks back into her life, she realizes that sometimes first loves can’t be forgotten.

Loving Irish is a sweet, touching second-chance romance that is sure to leave you smiling. With a fierce heroine, strong hero, and adorable kid, I couldn’t help but be swept up in this story.

I loved that the story jumped back and forth between the past and present. We saw the beauty of first love, naïve, young, and fresh, and then the intensity of a developing second-chance. The emotion was real, the heartache tear inducing and the healing heartwarming.

Ian is a recovering alcoholic who has been sober for over six months. I hated to see his life spiral out of control but he was determined to fight his demons and I loved how he took control of his life. It’s not easy and there are daily struggles but he surrounds himself with support. He is not perfect and he made mistakes in the past that hurt my heart, and I really felt for him. One choice lead to a path of destruction and I wanted to take away the pain. He was such a good person, though, and proves it over and over as he shows Hallie he would do anything to earn back her trust and love. He was true to his heart and his vulnerabilities and insecurities made him real and endearing.

I loved Hallie. She wants the best for her daughter and to limit the hurt that Jenny feels. She protects her heart and I totally understood why. The pain she went through broke her as things in the past and I cried for her. I was so made and frustrated, and I had to figure out a way to heal right along with Hallie.

I loved watching the flicker of love that still simmered under the surface ignite when Ian and Hallie see each other again. Their intense attraction is apparent and the sexual tension can be cut with a knife. As they spend more time together I felt the nerves and excitement grow and their love blossom into what always should have been.

Their relationship also had to factor in Jenny. She was adorable and I enjoyed watching her curiosity. I loved how wonderful Ian was with her and how much he loved and cared for both Hallie and Jenny.

I suspected how the story would go and I was glad I was right. Though there was very little angst in the present, the story was intense and emotional as we lived through the heartbreak in the past. Overall, Loving Irish is a beautiful story about second chances and forever loves that warmed my heart completely. I can’t wait for Finian and Tate’s story, Catching Irish, coming Fall 2018!!!

The truth was, she’d been his all along, and he’d been hers. They’d just had a long-ass detour on the way to forever.
