Synopsis

On the day I turned fifteen years old I knew I loved James Blakney. There was a look in his eye that told me he’d finally noticed I existed in a realm beyond best-friend’s-much-younger-off-limits-don’t-even-think-about-it-little-sister. Call it womanly intuition, despite the fact I was barely qualified for being an actual woman at just fifteen—and only in the biological sense—but still, I knew I loved him.

What I never expected from him was a proposal of marriage nearly eight years later. I know it’s not supposed to be a real marriage, but James is certainly making it feel that way.

He’s also hiding something from me.

But I’ve hidden the truth from him as well.

Lies.

So many filthy lies.

4 stars!

A hot and sexy friends-to-lovers romance that is swoonily romantic with a beautifully heartfelt love story.

Winter Blackstone is the younger sister of Caleb from Filthy Rich], James Blakney is his best friend. Winter has been in love with James since she was 15 and he was 23 and now, 9 years later everything is about to change for them.

Winter is studying for her Masters in Social Work. She has a huge heart and wants so badly to help those who truly need it, and though she knows she can do good, she has to wait six years until she comes of age to claim her inheritance… unless she marries.

James is a corporate lawyer who is being forced into marriage by his controlling father. And the first person he thinks of is Winter. He has wanted her for years, he suspects he may even love her, but he’s a “kinky fucker” and figures that his desires run too dark for her sweetness so he has kept his distance… until now.

I could never be with Winter the way I wanted to be. I could never have her. Not how I’d dreamed of having her when my innermost fantasies took over within my twisted headspace.
Winter was too good.
She was too sweet.
She was just too perfectly innocent…for the likes of me.

It seems the perfect solution – a marriage of convenience to help both of them out. But they very quickly realise that nothing between them could ever be fake, and as they finally open up about their long-hidden feelings, all of that chemistry and UST explodes into a love that neither of them realised was possible.

“I thought we were just friends. That you only thought of me as your best friend’s little sister…
Haven’t thought of you like that for years, beautiful.

I love that this book just dives onto into the relationship with James and Winter already feeling so much for each other when we meet them. From the very beginning I was absolutely hooked and I didn’t feel like I was missing any build up at all. It was clear what they both felt, I felt it right along with them, and I loved the fantastic dynamic between them.

“You’re a saint, and I’m a sinner. There’s a huge difference between us, and don’t you ever forget it.”
She shook her head against me. “Not so different. And I’m definitely no saint, James.”

Oh fuck. Here we go. The gloves were being thrown down for the first time, and Winter was the one brave enough to go there. My dick started throbbing as I took in her words.
Oh, baby, you are fucking awesome.

And so freaking hot! Yes, James likes his kink, and there is talk of him frequently hitting up an underground sex club but nothing too nasty going on. Sexually, there is a bit of a D/s vibe, but it’s very tame, and restricted to the bedroom and Winter is naturally just as into it as James is. They are a perfect match in every way, and the sexy time is sizzling.

Bossy James was hotter than hell and slapped every sexual button. Hard.

The sexy time is balanced by the beautifully swoony love story as James and Winter go all-in with their hearts, holding nothing back, until secrets and betrayal unexpectedly threaten everything they have built together.

I loved this book. James and Winter are so fantastic together, and I loved watching their love story play out. There’s involvement from both of their families, which added a lot to the book, and I excited for the series to continue, and am hoping for a book for Lucas and Victoria soon!
