Blurb

Hunches, horse races, and heartbreak

Ten years after Simone Payton broke his heart, all Roscoe Winston wants is a doughnut. He’d also like to forget her entirely, but that’s never going to happen. Roscoe remembers everything—every look, every word, every single unrequited second—and the last thing he needs is another memory of Simone.

Unfortunately, after one chance encounter, Simone keeps popping up everywhere he happens to be . . .

Ten years after Roscoe Winston dropped out of her life, all Simone Payton wants is to exploit him. She’d also like some answers from her former best friend about why he ghosted her, but if she never gets those answers, that’s a-okay. Simone let go of the past a long time ago. Seriously, she has. She totally, totally has. She is definitely not still thinking about Roscoe. Nope. She’s more than happy to forget he exists.

But first, she needs just one teeny-tiny favor . . .

Dr. Strange Beard is a full-length romantic comedy novel, can be read as a stand-alone, and is the fifth book in the USA TODAY bestselling Winston Brothers series.

Review

4.5 stars!

Finally, Roscoe and Simone’s long awaited story is here. It’s sweet, sexy, and suspenseful with a perfect mix of humor and heart, and I loved it!

Roscoe is twenty-six and the youngest of the Winston brothers. He is a veterinarian and is super smart. He has a great memory but it’s not always a blessing when along with the memories come the intense feelings associated with each and every one of them. Now that Simone is back in town the memories are getting out of hand and so are his emotions.

Simone was Roscoe’s best friend from childhood. It’s been ten years since they’ve seen each other and things aren’t exactly good between them. Roscoe had his reasons for separating himself from Simone, a decision that cause all kinds of hurt, and even though Simone is not ready to confront Roscoe about the past, she needs a favor from him, one that isn’t going to be easy to accept. As they spend time with each other, feelings from long ago emerge and Simone and Roscoe must decide if a chance at a future together is worth facing the past.

Dr. Strange Beard is an entertaining story that adds suspense and mystery to the gorgeous romance this story delivers. There is enough humor to balance out deeper, serious moments while still giving us all the feels we love. Add in the amazing characters and this book is another Winston Brothers hit!

We didn’t get much about Roscoe in the previous books so I didn’t know what to expect from him but he did not disappoint! He took me by surprise and I loved that he is a total romantic, seriously making me swoon throughout the book. Sweet, kind, and quiet, he has a gentle heart and he feels so much, and I fell for him and his sensitive nature immediately. He is also so fascinating and I loved the way his mind works. The description is amazing and my heart ached for how difficult certain situations can be for him. I just wanted to hug him whenever he was overwhelmed.

Simone is awesome! I’m not going into what she does but WOW – she is a badass. She can hold her ground and shows her strength in everything she does. She is brilliant and I loved that she went after her dreams and never gave up no matter what obstacles were placed in front of her. I enjoyed getting into her head and seeing how she fights the emotion that Roscoe arouses in her.

I was beginning to suspect – a hypothesis, not yet a theory – that my affection for Roscoe hadn’t ended when he’d cut off communication, but rather had laid dormant within me, biding its time, just waiting for him to make contact again.

Simone and Roscoe are genuine characters with subtle imperfections that make them real and relatable, especially when their vulnerabilities surface. They are well written and I could feel every emotion they experienced when it came to facing the past. The pent up anger and sexual tension builds nicely until they explode. They have wonderful chemistry, and though they are total opposites, they fit together perfectly. They are a nice mix of sugar and spice, heating the pages while melting my heart.

“I know you. I know you and I trust you. I carry you with me, I always have…You are in my heart. You have shaped my soul. Nothing – nothing – will change that for me.”

I was so curious to see what really happened when they were sixteen. After discovering the truth, I completely understood the situation. And though it was painful, timing was important and in the end things worked out the way they should. They got a taste of true love but they had to grow individually before they could grow together. I loved watching them overcome the things that held them back and fight for themselves as well as their happily ever after.

“I can’t miss out on any more time with you. I want all your moments, I want every memory.”

The progression of the story was well paced and captivating. I loved the way things unfolded and it kept me on my toes every step of the way. It’s exciting, intense, and I couldn’t have been happier with Roscoe’s story.

I have to add that I am now anticipating Billy’s books even more after everything I learned in this book. I really need him to get his HEA!!
