I fell for Connor Drake. I didn’t want to; I fought against it, but I fell in love with him anyway. With his words. With his poetry. With him. The gentleness and beauty of his soul that speaks directly to mine. He writes as if he can feel my heart, hear its cadence and compose the exact right lyrics to accompany every beat and flow.

I’m in love with Connor…so why do I feel an inexplicable pull to his best friend, Weston? Grouchy, sullen, brooding Weston Turner, who could cut you down with a look. Fiercely intelligent with a razor sharp wit and acid tongue, he’s the exact opposite of Connor in every way, and yet there’s electricity in the air between us. The thorny barbs Weston wraps around himself can’t keep me away.

But the more time I spend with these men, the more tangled and confused my emotions become. When they both sign up for the Army Reserves during a time of increasing strife in the Middle East, I fear I’ll never unravel my own heart that sometimes feels as if it will tear straight down the middle…for both of them.

Review

5+ stars!

“I love how a few words, carefully chosen, can elicit deep reactions. Or evoke a certain mood, or make you feel something real.”

Emma Scott has done it again. Just like the quote above she has pulled me into her story through her perfect words and made me feel everything. It’s angsty, emotional, raw, and real, and I loved every part of this truly unforgettable read.

Bring Down the Stars is the start of an epic love story that is unlike any I have read before. It is not all about the romance but rather a love story about friendship, loyalty, and the sacrifices you make for those you love. Full of all the feels and beautiful words, this story and the amazing characters have already captured my heart!

Connor lights up the world. His smile is friendly and he has an air about him that is approachable and easy. He comes from money and wants for nothing. He is liked by everyone and seems to have it all but he has insecurities and vulnerabilities that no one sees except for Weston.

Weston grew up with very little and was hardened by his childhood. He doesn’t draw people in like Connor and would rather be seen as standoffish than be in the limelight. He has a beautiful heart hidden under the rough exterior he shows the world that’s stronger than the darkness he hides behind but only Connor knows the real Weston.

Weston and Connor met when they were twelve and even though they were complete opposites, they became fast but true friends. They are as close as brothers and they share a bond that can’t be severed no matter the trials they face. Even when it comes to Autumn, the girl who catches them both off guard and sends their hearts beating faster, their devotion never wavers.

Autumn is beautiful inside and out. A true humanitarian, she has a huge heart and is compassionate and genuine. She believes in love but wasn’t looking for it when she meets Weston and Connor. They both intrigue her, each having something special within, but only one seems to have her heart.

I loved her…My soul sang the words I could never say to her out loud.

I adore Weston, Connor, and Autumn. They captivated me in their own special ways and I couldn’t help but fall in love with each of them. They are wonderfully complex individuals who carry their own burdens and are far from perfect. Their flaws make them relatable, the emotion makes them real, and it’s the challenges they face that truly show how deep love and loyalty can run.

When I heard Emma was writing a “love triangle” I was nervous and scared. I don’t tend to enjoy them. They hurt too much, twisting my insides and wrecking me. But Emma has shown us time and time again that she has the ability to heal hearts after they break through the stunning prose and gorgeous depth in her stories. And I trust her. I trust her words, her heart, and the emotion she evokes. I trust her to put me back together after tearing me apart, and I am so glad I didn’t let my fear stop me from reading this sensational story.

The love story is complicated and twisted but beautiful nonetheless. Autumn, Weston, and Connor get tangled up in feelings, confusion, frustration, and heartache, and the emotion is almost too much to endure. Intense, passionate, and angsty, it gets more difficult as time goes on and my heart hurt for all of them. For the truth, the lies, and the what if’s.

I have loved you with both
Hands tied behind my back
Bound with pen and ink
Paper and words
Sealed with someone else’s name
until this moment
in which I am nothing
but a man
who loves a woman.
There is nothing left to say
Except to give
all of my heart
For you

Bring Down the Stars is easily one of my top favorite reads of 2018. It consumed me, broke me, and  made me feel everything. I was a sobbing mess as I turned the last page and I am desperately awaiting the release of Book II.
