A fun, sexy anthology – averaging out to 4 stars

I have been slowly making my way through these novellas in the lead-up to Christmas, and it’s a fantastic collection of sexy, sweet, fun and passionate love stories by some of my favourite authors.

Just The Tip by Helena Hunting & LJ Shen
4 stars

This is a funny, super sexy little story with heaps of chemistry and a delightfully fun instalove story.

Reggie is an American in Paris working as a waitress while searching for answers to her past. Horatio (yes, that is his name) is a British businessman also working in Paris. The two of them meet when Reggie waits on Horatio in the café where she works. It’s an interesting first meeting including dog pee, suspicious shirt stains, lots of steamy looks and incorrect assumptions.

Once the air is clear though, it leads to a hot as hell encounter where their intense chemistry is explored in all the ways. It’s seriously steamy, funny, and even a bit romantic, and watching these two come together was lots of fun.

I don’t believe these two authors have written together before and they do a great job with it, blending their unique writing styles and sense of humour, and this was a great little read.

Baby it’s Cold Outside by Corinne Michaels & Melanie Harlow
4 stars

This is a really cute spin-off from Imperfect Match, but can be read as a standalone. It’s the story of Harlow and Michael (a cute spin on the author names) who meet unexpectedly while Harlow is trying to get her Christmas tree into her apartment. Michael is there just at the right time to help her out, and they end up spending night getting very festive.

Sexy and sweet with great banter and chemistry, this is a fast-paced love story and a really cute read.

Kissmas in New York by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward
4 stars

A fun, sweet and sexy read from the queens of the co-write!

When Margo is accused by her best friend of having lost her sense of spontaneity, she indignantly agrees to a dare to prove otherwise. She is then dared to kiss a stranger in their coffee shop. Awkward! But she’s determined, so she approaches the sexy stranger and initiates conversation that ends in a life-changing kiss. It’s after that that things get messy, and even though they’re both keen to explore their chemistry, life has other plans.

These two have some pretty big hurdles to overcome to get their chance, but they’re both willing to fight for it, and I loved watching this one play out.

The Christmas Crown by Sierra Simone & Kennedy Ryan
4 stars

Bringing even more steam to this little collection, The Christmas Crown is a hot novella that is full of chemistry and passion, and is just the beginning of more story to come.

Queen Noelani of the island nation of Manaroa is in Washington DC for a diplomatic visit to help her country. She is a regent queen following the death of her husband, the King, and is holding the throne until her young son comes of age. It’s an important role, though a lonely one, but she is committed to her duty and her country.

While at an important dinner she meets gorgeous and brooding security specialist, Brock ‘Grim’ Grimsby. Brock seems to have been introduced in the All the King’s Men duet by Kennedy Ryan (well, at least the two main characters from those books make an appearance in this one). They share an intense attraction which, after an impressive display of boldness on Noelani’s part, turns into an absolutely sizzling night together.

“You are a treasure, and above my pay grade.”
“A treasure is useless if it’s never found. Or never claimed.”
“Is that so?”

It’s hot, sexy and super intimate as they open up to each other body and soul. And though they knew it will only be for one night, when the time comes, neither of them are ready to let go.

Noelani and Grim’s story will continue in The Killer & His Queen. I’m annoyed that rather than getting a standalone novella we are, in fact, getting the first part of a full-length story, but it does end well and I’m excited to read more about these characters and their story.

She’s meant to be mine, she’s made to be mine, and god fucking dammit, I want her to be mine.

Songbird by Penny Reid & LH Cosway
2 stars

Native Dublin girl, Ophelia is struggling with life. She is broke, has a dead-end job, and her only joy is singing but she’s terrified of crowds. When the compulsion to sing becomes too much, she manages a brief performance in a bar on Christmas Eve, where she is heard by American tourist, Broderick Adams.

Ophelia has no idea that Broderick is a top record Executive, but when he admires her singing and she finds out he’s only in town for the night and hasn’t seen the city, she takes it upon herself to show him the sights.

This was an odd little read. Granted, I’m not up to date on my Reid/Cosway reading, and while I was easily and happily sucked into the beginning of this story, it went absolutely nowhere and then completely fizzled at the end. There’s no romance and no real character progression. It reads like a prologue. Is it the beginning of a longer story, or is it meant to be left completely unfinished? Who knows?

Epic by Elle Kennedy & Sarina Bowen
4.5 stars

Aaaaahhh, Wesmie. I loved catching up with one of my favourite romance couples. Still happy, together and blissfully in love, change may be in the air for these two as team dynamics and a career shift threaten to complicate their lives.

Not much to this one, but it was so much fun seeing these two again. I love their dynamic, I love the sense of fun between them, and I loved seeing just a little bit more of them living out their HEA.

This is a really enjoyable collection, and well worth a read.

4 stars.
