At Santa Cruz Central High School, they called them the misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos. But most of us knew them as the Lost Boys…

Ronan Wentz has been to hell and back, and he carries the scars to prove it. Worse, the blood of a monster runs through his veins. After ten years in foster care, eighteen-year-old Ronan is finally reunited with family. His uncle gives him roof over his head and puts him to work, managing a shabby apartment complex in Santa Cruz, California.

But a second chance is still a second chance. Ronan becomes a solitary hunter, a vigilante, walking the streets at night to keep the nightmares at bay. If he can use the anger burning in his tainted blood to protect instead of hurt, maybe then he’ll find the absolution he seeks.

Then he meets Shiloh.

Shiloh Barrera looks like she has it all together. Smart, ambitious and full of artistic creativity she channels into making beautiful one-of-kind jewelry. But Shiloh’s cool, capable demeanor is all a front. Her demons drive her to succeed as much as her ambition. To prove her worth to the mother who can’t stand to look at her, and who’s harboring secrets of her own.

When Shiloh and Ronan meet, the physical attraction is instant and scorching. Neither believe it will last. Falling in love is an impossible pipe dream saved for those less shattered and damaged than they are.

But as hard as they try to resist, the growing feelings between them seem inevitable… until one terrible night destroys Shiloh’s dreams and Ronan’s future.  When the smoke clears, and the rubble settles, they’ll have to choose – do their pasts determine their future, or can they build a new one from the broken pieces of their hearts?

Lost Boys is a new series of interconnected, coming-of-age standalones from USA Today bestselling author Emma Scott.

Review

5+ “Always forever” stars!!

This book is phenomenal, unputdownable, and it encompasses everything I love about Emma Scott’s books. She delivers a well-crafted, beautifully written, emotionally turbulent and unforgettable love story that is easily a new favorite, and I can’t stop thinking about it!

I was desperate to get my hands on Ronan’s story after everything we learn about him in the first two books and The Last Piece of His Heart is so much more than I could have imagined. Like the other books in the series, it is full of so many feels and I found myself bouncing between two extremes, my heart breaking and then healing and then breaking all over again. I was desperate for the happily-ever-after that seemed so out of reach at times that I found myself flying through the pages, devouring every word and emotion.

Ronan has so much on his shoulders and has been through the unimaginable in his liftime.  He’s lived through horrific things he’d do anything to forget and every time that the past showed its ugly head, my heart broke a little more. Even with all the bad though, he has managed to remain good to the core. His heart is truly a beautiful thing and he has a fierce protective side. He is also a swoony romantic at heart when it comes to Shiloh, and I fell a little harder each time he shows her his love.

Shiloh is lost in her own way and is trying to figure out who she is. She is strong, smart, and so talented. I was rooting for her dreams to come true and my heart hurt with every obstacle thrown her way. I loved that he believed the best in Ronan and never let him forget it.

I adore Ronan and Shiloh. They are complex and well developed, and each time a layer is pulled back, I was sucked deeper into the story. I was completely invested in these two and I couldn’t stop myself from getting emotionally attached to them. I felt everything they felt and even now, long after turning the last page, I am feeling the aftershocks of this amazing story.

Ronan and Shiloh are broken when they meet but there is a connection that draws them to each other. I felt the spark immediately and my heart raced every moment they were together. And though they tried to keep feelings out of their relationship, I knew it was only a matter of time before they had to admit that what they were feeling was actually the love they tried so hard to avoid. They find peace together and help each other realize all they can be and all they deserve.

Trusting someone and loving them despite the fear is truly amazing. Ronan and Shiloh’s love is pure and absolute. They love with their whole heart and would do anything to keep that love alive. However, their story isn’t easy and they go through a lot before they can find their forever. I cried so many tears as the story unfolded. I was frustrated and heartbroken and I just wanted to scream at some of the characters, but despite all they must endure, their love remains true.

“I love you. And I love how it feels to love you. I’ve never been more scared by never happier either. Loving you feels better than anything I’ve ever known.”

The secondary characters add so much to the story. I loved getting more of the other lost boys especially because the story unfolds during the same time frame as the others. We get different perspectives of times we already lived through with Miller (The Girl in the Love Song) and Holden (When You Come Back to Me) and it all just amplifies the strength of their relationship. They show everyone that family isn’t determined by the blood that runs through your veins, but rather finding the ones who love you unconditionally and are there for you during the good and the bad.

Bibi is also amazing! Her love and support for Shiloh is unending and she was the one who was there for every heartache and every moment of growth while Shiloh fought to discover her truth. I adored her and loved her complete acceptance of Ronan. She always sees the good in a person and she was a wonderful role model for Shiloh and Ronan.

Overall, Emma Scott’s Lost Boys series remains one of my favorites and The Last Piece of His Heart is the perfect addition to and finale of the series. It’s bittersweet because though I am not ready to let the Lost Boys go, I am so satisfied by how the series wrapped up. The epilogues made my heart sing and I know the Lost Boys will remain with me for years to come. I love this series and I love this book.
