It’s official.

I’m eighteen and a young woman with endless possibilities on my way to reunite with my mom in Colorado after five years apart–she had a little weed incident in Nebraska.

At the airport, she springs the news on me … she’s leaving for a month of job training. And me? I’m left on my own in the basement she’s renting from the fisherman, aka her landlord who lives upstairs.

He’s ten years older than me. Never wears a shirt. And makes it hard to remember all the things I learned at Christian Academy.

Did I mention he’s also my new boss?

Review

5 stars!

When you start a Jewel E. Ann book, you never know what you will get. She pushes boundaries and makes you think outside the box. Her books are never simple and there are turns you never see coming. Her characters are real and relatable even if you haven’t lived what they are going through. They are full of depth and always have so much growth and development that you can’t help but be consumed by their lives. Her storylines are captivating and original, and they are jam packed with angst, heartache, feels, and love, all of which leave a mark on us by delivering an unforgettable story. And that is exactly what The Naked Fisherman is – an unforgettable story…and it’s only just the beginning.

Reese and Fisher have a connection from the start but they couldn’t be more different. Reese is a young, naive, innocent, very Christian eighteen-year-old who is saving herself for marriage. Fisher is the complete opposite. He is an experienced, twenty-eight-year-old who enjoys causal relationships and isn’t look for settling down. When Reese’s mother goes out of town, they are thrown together and things between them shift, and their lives will never be the same.

Fisher is inappropriate at times yet he pushes Reese to experience life. She has so much to learn and he opens her eyes while still respecting her and valuing her beliefs. And Reese affects Fisher like no one before. At first you ask why they are so good together but by the end you get it. They challenge each other and let love in when they least expect it. They respect each other while still pushing the boundaries. They accept each other for who they are and never ask for change. They are both so much more than what you see on the outside and you feel the depth of their souls as they open up to each other.

We couldn’t have been at more different places in our lives, yet … we somehow found each other. And there was something there.
Something undeniable.
Something real.
Something I wasn’t ready for, but I sure didn’t want to let it go.

The age gap definitely affects their relationship but they learn how to navigate it. There is angst and heartache but also so much love, playfulness, and heat between Reese and Fisher. They know when to be serious and know when to have fun, and I loved it all.

“Are you going to kiss me?”
“I was thinking about it.”
“Don’t think.”

This story is full of feels and I loved Reese and Fisher together but sometimes the timing is all wrong and that’s exactly what they have to face. Reese is young and Fisher knows she has to do some soul searching before she can determine what she wants and though its heartbreaking, it is necessary.

“You deserve to have your breath taken away … every day.”

Overall, I loved this story. It’s just the first half of the Fisherman Duet so I know there is so much more to Fisher and Reese’s story. I’m obsessed with them and am actually scared of what’s to come because I know Jewel will push us even further with The Lost Fisherman and I am not sure I am ready for it. One thing is for sure – I can’t wait for more!!

“Loving you is my favorite thing to do. It’s automatic and effortless.”
