New York Times Bestselling author Corinne Michaels returns to Willow Creek Valley in this stunning surprise baby/unrequited love romance.

I was totally over Joshua Parkerson.

Sure, I had a teenage crush on him way back when–and everyone knew it–but he never saw me as anything but his little brother’s friend, the girl who got tongue-tied any time he walked into a room.

I had long ago accepted the fact that his strong arms would never hold me, his lush lips would never claim mine, and his blue eyes would never see me as anything more than who I used to be.

But now he’s back in Willow Creek Valley, and there’s a brand-new spark between us–even he can’t fight it. Our chemistry is explosive, and every time we’re together, I swear I can feel the earth shake.

It doesn’t mean anything… how could it? I’m over him.

Until I see that little pink plus sign, and the earth stops turning completely.

Now I want it all again, a life with him. But Joshua built walls around his heart for a reason, and his secrets haunt him.

How can I show him that the ghosts of his past don’t have to define our new family’s future?

Review

4.5 stars

Corinne Michaels has once again taken my heart, used it as her personal chew toy, and then returned it to me happy and whole. Wow, what an emotional read! A gorgeous friends-to-lovers/unrequited love/surprise pregnancy romance with drama, swoon, and all the feels. It’s absolutely gorgeous, and I loved it.

This is the third book in the Willow Creek Valley series, and is the story of eldest Parkerson brother, Joshua. Josh has returned to Willow Creek to work alongside his siblings in opening their own resort. He’s spent years away from home, and never anticipated that he would come back to his small home town, but he’s enjoying being with his family once again. But a devastating heartbreak has left him cold and somewhat aloof, and he has sworn to keep himself closed off and unattached.

Some days, I don’t understand why I can’t just let go of the past, but I can’t. The one thing I do know is that I will never, ever love someone just so they can be taken from me again.
No fucking way.

Delia grew up with the Parkersons and she has been in love with Joshua for as long as she can remember. Nothing ever happened between them, she was always too young and immature for him, but now he’s back in town, and there’s all sorts of chemistry zinging between them. It’s hot and exciting, and you can feel the sexual tension. There’s a wonderful sense of anticipation just waiting for something to break between these two, and I loved watching it happen for them.

My forehead rests on hers, our breaths mingling as the pull to kiss her grows with each second. “Tell me to leave,” I implore.
“Why would I do that?” Delia asks huskily.
“Because you should.”
She lifts her face, her hand moving to my jaw. “Take what you want, Josh. What we both want.”

But far from the epic love story that Delia was hoping for, Josh makes it clear that he’s not cut out for relationships. He’s been hurt and he refuses to allow himself to love again. But they can’t stay away from each other. And despite Josh’s words, you can feel that he cares so deeply for Delia. The love is there, he just refuses to accept it, and watching him try to fight his feelings while falling deeper and deeper is gorgeous.

She’s been a weakness, but she’s also my strength. I don’t know what to do, how to fight anymore.

I’ve got to hand it to Delia. In circumstances like this, it’s so easy for heroines to come across as complete doormats, accepting whatever they can get from the man they love, knowing they’ll never fully have him. But Michaels somehow manages to balance it well, and Delia comes across as a strong woman who knows what she wants, and who fights hard for it, holding her heart in her hands and risking heartache for the man she’s always loved, knowing that he has feelings for her, and pushing to break down his walls.

Joshua Parkerson has given me no false pretenses, and I jumped into this anyway.
There’s not a chance in hell I’m jumping out.
I want him far too much. I love him even though I shouldn’t, and I can’t tell him no because it’s not what I want.

And then things get deliciously twisty when Delia discovers that she’s pregnant. It throws their situation into complete turmoil and sets us up for an emotional road ahead. You think this is a spoiler? No. It’s in the blurb. And it’s just the beginning of a swoony, unexpected, angsty and emotional ride.

“I never wanted to be anything else but yours.”

I felt so much reading this story! I fell in mad love with both of these characters, and my heart ached for all that they went through. I was mad at how certain things were handled, and I celebrated their triumphs as they fought so hard to find their way to a HEA. And along the way there’s a whole lot of swoon and the love story is beautiful.

“I want us. I want you. I want it all.”

The rest of the family is a big part of Josh and Delia’s story – all up in their business, offering support, and wake-up calls when needed. I loved seeing the stories continue for the previous couples, and I loved getting to know Oliver a bit more. His book is up next, and sounds so freaking good, I can’t wait!

This is a beautiful story. Heartbreaking, but so beautiful, and I loved seeing Joshua and Delia get their happy ending.
