It was the friends-with-benefits proposition he never saw coming…

While Arran Adair might have followed the call of wanderlust in his younger years, it isn’t the reason he stayed away from Ardnoch. Home now, desperate to put the sins of his past behind him, and rebuild his life in the Scottish Highlands, Arran could never have predicted Eredine Willows. The Ardnoch Estate Pilates instructor is a complicated mystery and one Arran can’t help but want to solve.

Eredine has spent the last eight years hiding in Scotland and building walls between her and the people she cares about. Arran is the first Adair who doesn’t treat her as if she’s fragile and demands a genuine friendship. Yet, the attraction sizzling between them is undeniable. So when she realizes she trusts him, Eredine surprises them both by offering Arran one night of no-strings passion.

Arran knows one night will inevitably lead to a desire for more and he’s willing to stay by Eredine’s side for as long as it takes to convince her there’s something real between them. However, just when Arran thinks they might build a future together, Eredine’s past returns to stalk her. And Arran won’t just have to battle her demons to keep them together. He’ll need to battle his own.

Review

“Sometimes I can’t believe you want to be here with me. You’re something out of a dream.”

5 stars!

Oh, I adored this book! A breathtakingly emotional and passionate friends-to-lovers story that absolutely stole my heart!

I am so in love with this series, and was so happy to be back in the Scottish highlands with the Adair family. While you could read this book as a standalone, there has already been a bit of build-up with these characters and this book contains huge spoilers for the earlier books, so do yourself a favour and read them in order – they’re all amazing!

Arran Adair has spent years travelling the world and doing his own thing, but after experiencing a brutal tragedy he’s finally home in Ardnoch, putting down roots and wanting to settle with his family.

Eredine has been a side character in all of the previous books. She is the yoga and pilates instructor who works at Ardnoch Estate – the exclusive celebrity resort run by eldest sibling, Lachlan Adair. She’s quiet and somewhat reserved, and we know she’s running from her past and hiding a big secret, and I couldn’t wait to get to know her more.

Arran and Eredine have become close friends since Arran returned home. Though they each have their secrets, they are all up in each other’s lives, and they cherish and care for each other deeply. With everyone around them all coupled up and madly in love, Eredine realises that she’s been missing the physical intimacy of having somebody in her life, but she’s not prepared to open herself up to a relationship. However she does feel she’s able to handle a one-off night of passion with the man she trusts most. Arran is gobsmacked when Eredine proposes a one-night-fling, especially because he was just about to officially ask her on a date. When she makes it clear she wants nothing more from him than his friendship and one hot night, he can’t resist her offer – even knowing how much it will hurt.

Disappointment churned in my gut, and I did my best to keep that emotion off my face. How could I possibly agree to that when I wanted more? Fuck, I might as well as Ery to plunge a knife into my heart, right? Because there was no way I could come out of this unscathed.

It’s a great set-up and things move quickly, and oh holy God, the hotness is insane! There is SO much chemistry between these two, and when you combine that with their complete trust in each other and the closeness of their connection, it results in an absolutely explosive encounter, and Arran knows one night will never be enough.

“Do you know how long I’ve wanted this?” he asked hoarsely. “Fantasized about having you in my arms like this? It’s fucking haunted me, Ery. And yet no fantasy could stand up to the reality of you.”

God, I love these two together! Their friendship is so playful and open, it’s clear that they care deeply for each other, and their passion for each other is off the charts hot. The change between them is natural and realistic, and I loved watching the shift between them.

I marvelled at how safe I felt with him. I was more vulnerable than a person could be, and yet with him, I felt not just protected but … free.

Arran absolutely stole my heart as he desperately tries to convince Eredine for more. They’re perfect together and he knows it, but she’s emotionally damaged by all that she’s been through. I could absolutely understand Eredine’s fear and hesitation at getting involved, and my heart ache as she wrestled with her feelings, but I love how honestly she handled it all. It really brings the feels, and I was rooting so hard for these two. And Aaran is there for her without question, every step of the way, holding nothing back from her, and God, he made me swoon!

“I want more. I want a relationship with you, but you won’t give me that And I don’t want to hide what I feel from you, let alone anyone else. I have real feelings for you, Eredine. This isn’t just sex.” He ran a hand through his hair and let out a huff of sad laughter. “If I’m honest, it never was.”

He shares himself with her, protects and cares for her, saying and doing all the right things, and giving her the strength to truly live her life. I love him!

“Maybe this new you is broken, but we’re all a little broken. I just need you to be you. I’m not going anywhere.”

As with the other books in the series, there is a suspense storyline. It runs through the whole book and builds some nice tension building to the inevitable climactic ending, but it doesn’t overwhelm the story, which I appreciated.

What I absolutely loved was being back with the whole family group. The Adairs are a close bunch, and they had already adopted Eredine as one of their own (and in a fun twist, Lachlan and Mac are fiercely protective of her which makes things very entertaining). There’s lots of time with all of the characters from previous books, with progression for their stories, as well as seeing them take Aaran and Eredine’s backs as they figure themselves out. It’s funny and sweet, and I loved every minute of them all together. There’s also a bit of an intro for the final book of the series, which is Brodan’s, and I cannot want to dive into all of that emotion!

I absolutely loved this book. Once again I was completely swept up in the story, I adored the characters, I laughed, hurt and swooned with them, and I fell in mad love right along side them. It’s such a gorgeous romance.
