Release & ARC Review: The Brawl (Calamity Montana, #5) by Devney Perry (writing as Willa Nash)

The Brawl by Willa Nash is live!

A gorgeous small-town romance between a strong single mother and an irresistibly cocky and charming hero. With humour, heart, drama and emotion, I was sucked in from start to finish, and I absolutely loved this book!

Blurb

On Ronan Thatcher’s first week in Montana, he spots the most beautiful woman in the world. Love at first sight? Nah. He doesn’t believe in love. But he wouldn’t mind a date or two with the local beauty. Ronan is the type of man who gets what he wants, and he wants Larke Hale.

Except Calamity’s sweetheart has sworn off men. The last time Ronan was rejected was, well . . . never. Yet Larke dismisses him without even batting those pretty brown eyes.

Bruised ego in check, he’s about to walk away when a teenager marches into his office and asks to hire Ronan as her lawyer. Something about a bad grade and a ruined grade point average that will inevitably destroy her future. He’s about to lecture the kid for being melodramatic until he learns that the teacher she wants to sue is Larke.

Suddenly this frivolous lawsuit seems like a bright idea. Ronan wants Larke’s attention and this is guaranteed to snag it. So let the brawl begin.

4.5 stars!

A gorgeous small-town romance between a strong single mother and an irresistibly cocky and charming hero. With humour, heart, drama and emotion, I was sucked in from start to finish, and I absolutely loved this book!

Larke is the sister of Kerrigan (heroine from book #3, The Brazen), and she grew up in Calamity, Montana. She’s a single mother, proudly raising her 16 month old baby girl, Larke, while teaching at the local high school. Her life is busy and full, and she’s happily single with no plans to change that.

Ronan Thatcher is new to Calamity. He’s a successful lawyer from the city who has had a rough time and he’s looking for a slower pace, so he packed up his life and has opened his own legal firm in the small town. He is super confident with a lighthearted, fun feel about him, and he is revelling in his new adventure, even if he is feeling a little lonely. But things get interesting when Ronan lays eyes on local girl, Larke. He is instantly smitten, and dives right in, but he’s left stunned when she turns him down. Over and over again he tries to entice the local beauty, only to be continuously rejected, and even when he learns that they are neighbours, she makes it clear that she wants nothing to do with him. But he remains determined.

I felt the shift. So much for the simple life I’d hoped to find in Calamity. Things were about to get complicated.
And fuck, but I was excited.

When a young senior from the high school storms into Ronan’s office declaring that she wants to sue her English teacher for a bad grade, he’s in the middle of letting her down gently when he learns that the teacher is Larke. It’s a pointless lawsuit, and he knows it, but he sees it as his only chance to finally engage with the object of his affection, so he agrees to help.

It’s an interesting way to get a woman’s attention, but it works, and we get to watch the wonderfully entertaining snark between Lark and Ronan go up a notch. And as they interact more, and Ronan starts to insinuate himself into Larke’s life, things start to shift between them, and I loved watching the change.

“You’re going to be insufferable, aren’t you?”
“Definitely. I’m not the kind of man who misses opportunities to say
I told you so.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. I rolled my eyes for good measure. “You might be the cockiest man I’ve ever met in my life.”
That grin of his widened to a full-blown, breathtaking smile. “Charming, isn’t it?”
Yes, oddly enough. It was.

I love the romance between Ronan and Larke. There’s no doubting their attraction to each other, they have amazing chemistry and the passion between them is hot, steamy and seriously intense! But more than that, there is a genuine connection between them. They talk, they share openly about their lives, and everything between them feels so natural. Things between them move at a quick pace, and though they do have a few minor hurdles they need to overcome, it’s honest and real, and their commitment to each other is beautiful to see. I love how they’re both all in, and there’s very little conflict between them, just a beautiful, functional love story that had me dreamily captivated.

And while Ronan is falling for Larke, he’s also developing a beautiful relationship with little Wren. Talk about ovary-melting, OMG, these two are just adorable together, and I love how we could see the love between them blossom.

I’d spent as many moments in this house as possible in the past four days. That was all it had taken for me to fall for this little girl.
She was as much mine as her mother.

*dreamy sigh*

But there’s still the issue of the law suit, and it’s way more than it initially seems. It brings an element of drama to the story, and I loved watching that particular plotline play out. There’s other little bits of drama that add depth to the story, and Nash writes it beautifully, bringing the different aspects of the story together to give us an engaging, emotional and heartfelt book that won my heart, and that I read in a day, unable to put it down.

There’s also a delicious sneak peek of the hero for the next book of the series, and I’m so excited for more from this series.

Such a gorgeous read, I loved it!
