From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Emma Scott, comes an emotional paranormal romance about sacrifice, redemption, and the power of true love.

Cole Matheson didn’t expect the road toward being a successful painter would be paved in gold, but he hoped there’d be a few less potholes. Insidious self-doubt that whispers that he’s no good, talentless, hopeless has him on the brink of despair. Maybe it would be better to just give up.

A midnight visit by a beautiful creature of darkness changes everything…

Ambrosius Edward Meade-Finch surrendered to the underworld centuries ago after knowing only pain and suffering during his short life. Now, Ambri makes humans dance on his strings, feeding on their desire for his own pleasure. But his liege lord questions his loyalty and commands him to bring a pure soul into their dark realm.

Cole Matheson seemed like an easy mark, but Ambri didn’t count on his goodness or the depth of his generous spirit that wants Ambri just as he is. And Cole never expected to find in Ambri a muse who unlocks his talent and who might also be what his lonely heart has been searching for. Something fragile yet powerful grows between them, and the possibility of soul-deep love hangs in the balance, if only they have the courage to reach for it.

But fairy tale endings don’t come without a price. The dark forces Ambri answers to have been promised a soul, and they’re coming to collect…

The Muse is book 2 in the Angels and Demons series but can be read as a standalone.

Review

5 stars!

The Muse is the second book in the Angels and Demons series and just like with the first book, The Sinner, it was unputdownable. As before, it shows us a different idea of Heaven and Hell and I loved being back in that world. I was completely invested in Cole and Ambri’s love story and didn’t want it to end. It’s emotional, passionate, and so full of heart, and I loved every part of it, even the ones that broke my heart.

Cole is a struggling artist who has worked so hard to be discovered but nothing every pans out. He falls into a deep depression and is teetering on the edge of life and death. Then, an encounter with a stranger changes everything. Suddenly, he has a muse and his talent is finally realized. But fame is not the other thing this he finds. His heart has found the other half of [his] soul.

Ambri is a demon who has been through so much heartache. He doesn’t trust humans and is forced to follow commands of the higher ups. After everything went down with Lucy and Cas (from The Sinner), Ambri has to prove his loyalty. He must destroy a man unless he wants to suffer for eternity. He thinks that Cole is the perfect choice but Cole is nothing like Ambri imagined and ends up being the key to Ambri’s salvation.

I adore Cole and Ambri. These two are gorgeous together. They are both broken and flawed but they are whole together. Ambri’s heart was ruined too many times and he doesn’t trust humans. Cole isn’t like most humans and he is a wonderful surprise. His goodness and love is limitless and he gives his all when his heart is involved. Ambri pulls Cole from his despair and Cole finds the muse he needed to show his true potential. I loved that Ambri was the spark he needed.

Even though they try to fight the attraction and their time together has an ending point, once their hearts get involved, there is no stopping them from falling hard. They are intense and passionate, and set the pages on fire. But all is not perfect and demons from the past have a hand in messing things up. It’s heartbreaking to see these two pulled apart and I desperately needed them to overcome the challenges and threats that would keep them apart forever.

I love the way the story unravels. I love the emotion that filled my heart. These two put everything on the line and I loved how they finally find love, redemption and salvation. Another 5-star read in this series!!
