Baseball star Spencer Crews knows April can’t stand him, yet his proposition of temporarily living together is the biggest curveball of his career…

Making a certain kind of video with my enemy (who happens to be everyone’s favorite baseball player) was not my proudest moment, but I blame the alcohol for Spencer’s smirk three seconds before our clothes ended up on the floor for our one-night mistake. He said he deleted the video, which is why I didn’t expect the jerk to interrupt my date a few months later to break the news that we have a problem. His solution is to avoid the press by staying at his lake house to hide away and I stupidly agree.

The next thing I know, I have two tiny eyes staring at me.

Yep, I discover Spencer is a hot single dad to a cute little girl secret. And that’s not the only twist, because the small town by the lake seems to bring us closer; all of us. Spencer and my arguments fizzle out, and our looks grow longer. We talk like it matters and study one another’s bodies. It feels like we are in our own little world. And in the end, I’m not sure if it’s Spencer or me who’s trying to convince us we may just be worth the chance…

Spencer and April bring the banter and steam in this enemies to lovers, single dad, and completely swoon worthy forced proximity story. Worth the Chance is book two in the standalone interconnected Lake Spark series. For lovers of small-town romance with a touch of sports.

4 stars!

The second book in the Lake Spark series, this is a fun and feisty enemies-to-lovers, single dad, forced-proximity, sports romance full of snark and passion, with a gorgeous love story.

Spencer and Abigail know each other through his friend and neighbours, Hudson and Piper from book #1, Worth the Risk. They hate each other with a passion, but one drunken night all of that passion spills over into steamy hate sex before they both go their separate ways. It’s a few weeks later when Spencer tracks Abigail down to let her know that his phone was hacked and the video they made that night (still not sure how that came about!) may be about to go public. He offers to take her to his lake house to lay low and deal with the legal stuff together, and she agrees.

It’s a fun set up, and I was fully on board and enjoying the constant snark and banter, and with Spencer’s dirty flirting, the sexual tension is fiery, with lots of almost moments that keep the chemistry simmering. Things take an interesting twist when Spencer’s six year old daughter arrives to spend the off-season with her dad. Abigail gets to see Spencer in the role of doting father, and as little Hadley bonds with Abigail, it changes the dynamic of the house, and Abigail and Spencer’s relationship shifts along with it.

“To my utter dismay, you’re getting under my skin in a way that I’m not used to.”
Fear that he may have regretted last night fades, and my body softens into his words. “Likewise.”
“Something is shifting.”
“I agree.”

From enemies, to enemies-who-want-each-other, to friends, to friends-with-benefits, to more, we follow Spencer and Abigail’s relationship as it easily and naturally changes. Their feelings for each other grow effortlessly, and I loved watching them just go with it and enjoy exploring each other through all of the shifts in their relationship. And their sweet family dynamic together is just gorgeous.

They do have some things to work through, which make sense to the story, and which are resolved well, but on the whole there is very little angst, just lots of flirting, fun moments, steamy time and swoon as these two fall so easily for each other.

“I don’t want to lose you, so here I am, leaving no stone unturned, because you and me? We’re worth the chance.”

The epilogue finishes the story of beautifully, and that bonus scene is an absolute winner! I loved these two characters, and loved seeing them get their HEA.

Hudson and Piper from the first book appear, and I loved seeing them again. And there are hints for the third and final book in the series featuring the third of the boys to have a house on the block, Ford, and I cannot wait for his second-chance-romance.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s lots of fun and a gorgeous read!

4 stars.
