5 stars!

OMG, yes, yes, yes, this was everything I was hoping it would be! A fabulously fun, adventurous, sexy and romantic story revisiting Cat and Bones – one of my all-times fave couples, and a powerhouse of paranormal romance – in an alternate POV book, giving us Bones’ side of the story, and damn, it was a fantastic read!

Ever since I read The Other Half of the Grave (the first Bones POV book), I have been desperately waiting for this one! It is the retelling of book #2 in the Night Huntress series, One Foot in the Grave (which was also a 5-star read), and it’s a very welcome opportunity to get into the head of this smart, sexy and calculating master vampire who is desperate to find the girl he lost, and get her back at all costs.

This book has a second-chance-romance, and I adored seeing Cat and Bones’ reunion through Bones’ eyes. He is desperately, whole-heartedly, unapologetically in love, and I’ve always loved how easily he puts himself out there for Cat, holding nothing back from her, and that’s so clear again as we see all that he is thinking and feeling as he searches for her, finds her, and then immediately inserts himself right into her life.

The way that Frost has written these books, you could easily pick up the Bones POV books and read them independently of the original series. However, fans will also love going on these adventures again – with a slightly different viewpoint, and exploring all that Bones was up to. He’s a very smart and cunning guy, and I loved the opportunity to be inside of his head through all of his plotting and planning, Bones getting to know Cat’s team, his interactions with Rodney, Ian, Annette and Randy, and of course his thoughts about his beloved – even the scandalously famous chapter 32 is retold in sizzling extended detail *fans self*. And as a romantic hero, he is phenomenally swoony.

While I found parts of the last book to be a little slow moving, I enjoyed every moment of this one. It’s paced well and full of all the action, fun, romance and emotion that I loved so much about the original book.

I listened to this as an audiobook narrated by Will Watt, and he is pure perfection! He voices Bones with just the right amounts of menace, sarcasm and warmth, and he does a stellar job with the sexy time as well!

Such a fantastic read, and a must-read for series fans!

5 stars.
