First rule of being a nanny? Don’t fall for the single dad, even if he is smoking hot.

But that’s exactly what happens when grumpy small-town sheriff Asher Whitlock reluctantly hires me to take care of his daughter for the summer. Neither of us is thrilled with the arrangement, but he’s desperate for help, and I need the money for grad school this fall.

All we need to do is keep our distance and remain professional . . . turns out, that’s easier said than done.

Instead of focusing on my future, all I see is the strong jawline, crystal-blue eyes, and rock-hard body right in front of me. We try to resist each other, but we end up crossing every line until I’m in his bed.

I tell myself it’s just this once.

Okay, twice.

All right, every night.

But it’s got to end–he’s fourteen years older than me, with a kid and a stressful job. Have I mentioned my dad is his boss? Then there’s the past I’m trying to forget. Secrets aren’t easy to keep and mine are getting too big to hide.

Walking away is never simple but when I do, I can’t look back.

Even if it means leaving behind the man I was never meant to love.

Review

5 swoon-filled stars!

Oh, my heart, what a swoonfest! This is such a gorgeous read! A forbidden romance full of chemistry and intensity, and a gorgeously sweet love story (and phenomenal hero) that absolutely stole my heart!

The start of a new series from Corinne Michaels, we’re back in the town of Sugarloaf (setting of the Arrowood Brothers series, so yay, cameos!!!), and local Sherriff, Asher Whitlock is desperately searching for a nanny for his nine year old daughter. Little Olivia is deaf, and needs somebody who can communicate with her using sign language, which makes it difficult to find someone in their small town. It’s his boss who recommends his daughter, Phoebe, but Asher not happy with the idea. He remembers Phoebe as an irresponsible, trouble-making teenager, but he’s out of options and reluctantly offers her the job.

Phoebe left her grad program to return home after her heart was brutally broken, and she became the subject of vicious campus gossip. She’s looking to transfer schools and is trying to get her life in order, when she is semi-forced into taking the job working for Asher. She doesn’t like the man, he’s grumpy and was always on her case when she was a teenager, but she connects with little Olivia right away, and is determined to prove herself. She actually settles into the new job quickly, and loves spending time with Olivia and snarking with Asher. The only downside being the giant, inescapable, all-consuming crush she is developing on her boss.

Asher is feeling the attraction right back, but he knows he can’t go there with Phoebe. Not only is she his daughter’s nanny, but she’s way too young (she’s 24, he’s 38), and she’s the boss’s daughter. But the longer these two are around each other, the harder it is to resist, and damn, the chemistry is insane!

“This is bad,” he admits, his voice barely above a whisper. “I shouldn’t…want this.”
“Want what?” I breathe the words, not wanting to break the spell.
“You.”

You can feel the attraction between these two. They want each other badly, but more than just lust, they’re falling for each other as well, and I was loving their banter and playfulness, and how honestly and openly they talked about what they were feeling.

“I have never wanted someone as much as I want you. I have never been completely out of my mind to the point that I couldn’t walk away.”

While Phoebe is all for diving in to explore their mad lust, Asher is determined to keep his distance, and fights his feelings all the way, though he is falling harder and harder with every passing moment, and it’s awesome to watch it happen!

“You are going to wreck my world, and I’m going to let you.”

I freaking love these two together! They’re playful and fun, there’s a strong emotional connection, and the sexy time absolutely sizzles. They don’t hide their feelings or hold anything back from each other, and it’s natural and easy as they follow their hearts and everything between them changes.

“I’ve waited my entire life to feel this way, and while we have every reason to stay apart, I can’t come up with a single one that’s good enough to make me walk away. I know what I want, Phoebe, and I’m looking at her.”

Oh, the swoon! This is such a gorgeous relationship, and there is blessedly no stupid angst. However they do have some drama to face. They have to work through all of the forbidden aspects of the relationship, Phoebe has plans for the future that don’t include staying in Sugarloaf, and the events from her past have left a big mark on her. It’s a lot, but they tackle it all head-on, and I loved watching it all unfold.

“All I want is you. However I can have you. However you want me, I’m yours.”

The characters are amazing, and I felt everything right along with them. Phoebe is fun, smart, brave and sensible, and she’s the perfect amount of imperfect to make her relatable, and I adored her. And Asher! Oh wow. What a romantic hero. He’s a bit grumpy, but has a heart of gold. He’s sweet, funny and protective, he’s an incredible father, and though he’s never been in love before, he is absolute perfection with Phoebe, and I loved watching him fall in love for the first time.

I drop my forehead to hers. “I knew you’d destroy me. I just didn’t know it would feel so good.”

There’s a great cast of side characters. Little Olivia is a delight and I loved the relationship that she has with her dad, and the friendship that she and Phoebe develop is just beautiful. We are also introduced to Asher’s siblings – all very different, and each of them I cannot wait to get to know more.

I adored everything about this book. It made me feel, it made me swoon, and I fell in mad love with these characters and their story.

So beautiful – 5 stars!
