The first book in the Wolf Hotel series, this book has been on my TBR for so long, and I’m so happy I have finally made a start! This book takes me back to when billionaire romances were the big thing, and it was fun to return to a genre that I haven’t read in such a long time.
Abby is a 21-year-old, naïve small-town girl from a religious household. She’s just learned that her childhood sweetheart and fiancé has been cheating on her and she’s desperate to escape her heartache, her controlling mother, and her life for a while, and try something new. So, she accepts a job at the soon-to-open Wolf Hotel in remote Alaska. Thinking she’s going to be working outdoors, she’s stunned when she ends up as the Assistant to Henry Wolf, owner and CEO of the Wolf Hotel chain, and gorgeous playboy who takes an immediate interest in her.
“Is there anything else you need, while I’m here?” I ask as calmly as I can manage. I don’t understand what’s happening, but I know what I need at this moment. Him.
Henry takes a step closer to me, heat from his body radiating … “Don’t tempt me,” he growls.
Sparks fly between Henry and Abby from the moment they meet. Henry (31 years old) has this fabulously aloof, closed-off billionaire businessman vibe, with the exception of the steamy looks and flirtatious comments Abby’s way. And Abby, inexperienced with all things sexual, is helpless against his intense charisma. The lusty vibes are strong, and they have some fabulous banter and ‘almost’ moments that had me desperate for something to happen. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but as Abby embraces her freedom and everything that she’s feeling, they fall into a wildly passionate affair that is seriously steamy and all kinds of intense.
“You are so goddamn sweet.” His lips skim over mine as he whispers, “I don’t even like sweet. I like filthy and unemotional. This wasn’t supposed to happen.
“Every time I think about you, every time I’m near you, I don’t give a shit about what anyone else thinks.”
More sex than romance at this stage, Abby is already all in with her enigmatic boss, but he’s reserved when it comes to his feelings, and we’re not really sure where he stands. On top of that, he has a big secret which threatens his future, and could change everything between them.
It’s the start of a long journey for these two, and I’m here for it. I really enjoyed the introduction to Henry and Abby and can’t wait for more of their story.
4 stars.
Note – I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Avery Reid, and she does a great job with it. This is an easy book to listen to.
