Flynn Morley has spent his life getting by with as little as possible. No girlfriend. No real home. No money to speak of. Raised in the system, he learned early not to trust people who seemed to have everything. So when he takes a job as a “muse” for a wealthy Minneapolis couple, it feels like crossing a line he never thought he would.
Then he meets June.
June is a bike tour guide with a quick smile, a calm confidence, and a way of making Flynn feel seen without being judged. Their connection is immediate and playful, built on shared humor, quiet moments, and a mutual longing for a simple life.
As Flynn adjusts to his bizarre new job, he starts encountering something he never planned for: kindness without strings attached. It challenges everything he believes about money, power, and who gets to be comfortable in the world. And falling for June only complicates things, especially when it turns out she’s carrying secrets of her own.
When June’s past surfaces, Flynn has to decide what scares him more: becoming someone he’s always sworn he’d never be or letting her see his darkest secrets. If he can’t let go of his fears, he might lose the one person who finally feels like home.

5 “accidentally romantic” stars!!
Witty, romantic, and full of feels, Flynn and June’s love story is easily A NEW FAVE!!! It’s the second book in the Chain of Lakes series and another 5 star read! This series is easily making its way onto my fave series list and I want more!
Flynn has had a rough upbringing. He bounced around foster homes, has been in and out of jail, and can’t seem to get anything right. When he gets caught taking a client’s car for a joy ride, instead of calling the police, Rupert gives Flynn a job as a muse for the wife, Callie. Flynn has no idea what all this job entails but he can’t turn it down if he wants to stay out of jail.
One day, while out with Callie, he sees June. Instantly, he knows he needs to meet her but she’s gone in a flash. He feels a connection and when he sees her again, he makes his move. Flynn is funny and different and for some reason June just can’t say no. There’s something about him that makes her give him a chance.
Flynn and June have a slow start to a relationship but as their friendship grows, it’s gorgeous and organic. They understand the world differently so there is a bit of a learning curve before things feel easy. Flynn always says he doesn’t have a way with words but in his own way he is “accidentally romantic.” Flynn is so genuine. He’s blunt and to the point but also so sweet when he talks because you know he is coming from a good place and working with how he grew up. June is living life as a bike tour guide and she doesn’t know why Flynn is interested in her but she is definitely intrigued by him. He’s a breath of fresh air and nothing like anyone she’s met before.
If he were my muse, I’d write love songs about all the things I never knew I wanted—until him. Songs about falling. Butterflies. Goosebumps. And of course, being swept off my feet.
These two are perfect together. June understands him even when he struggles to find the words or to understand the situations he finds himself in. He is willing to do anything for her and wants to take a chance.
I’m going to do something I’ve never done: love someone—this girl—so much it will destroy me.
They learn how the other looks at the world. They go through ups and downs but they are there for each other through it all but also know when they have to let them go to grow on their own. Though they face challenges that break your heart, they need to go through the journey to find their happily ever after.
I feel like the best version of myself when she looks at me. A version of myself that I’ve never seen, but often imagined.
The twist is great. I didn’t really see it coming which is awesome because I love being surprised but I loved the twist and it’s place in the story.
The epilogue is perfect. It’s so very Flynn and I loved that things unfolded the way they did.
I have to add that all of the characters, new and old, are wonderful! Flynn’s relationship with Callie and Rupert was fantastic and entertaining. Rupert comes across as a grump but you can tell he actually really cares, and Callie is just what Flynn needs after growing up the way he did. I smiled when I read who the next door neighbor is, and I loved that June’s parents are from a previous book.
