Blurb

She drives him crazy… In more ways than one.

Every time Leah Holt encounters Quantum Production’s chief counsel, Emmett Burke, the only thing she can think of is how much she wants to lick him. Everywhere. She’s never had that kind of reaction to a man, and the fact that he’s a much-older colleague makes her out-of-control attraction to him far more complicated than it should be. Every day, she brings a new legal question to Emmett, hoping to catch his attention and make him see her as a grown woman who wants him desperately. She walks a fine line in trying to remain professional as the assistant to superstar Marlowe Sloane while lusting after Marlowe’s sexy attorney.

To Emmett, Leah is a fly buzzing around his head who can’t be swatted away. She’s always there, looking at him, asking him legal questions that have nothing to do with his specialty in entertainment law and generally driving him mad with her overt sexiness and sassy mouth. He wants to toss her over his desk and run the sass right out of her, which is hardly the way a professional who loves his job should behave in the office—especially with a young, fresh, sexy colleague. As the author of the company’s policy on inter-office dating, he’s painfully aware of all the reasons he should stay far, far away from her and the tantalizing temptation she represents.

Then Leah gets her chance to step up for Emmett, to help him through an unfortunate “accident” and to show him she’s much more than just a smart mouth and a sexy body. When she realizes she has genuine feelings for him—and that those feelings are returned—she wonders if he will take a chance on her or continue to hold her at arm’s length. Slowly but surely, she chips away at his resistance, and he begins to crave more of her. But Emmett knows if he’s going to let her in, he has to let her all the way in. What will she think when he introduces her to his BDSM lifestyle? Will she still want him the way she does now or will she run away in horror? And what will he do if she runs away?

When Leah confronts a dangerous threat from her past, Emmett is forced to acknowledge that his “annoying little fly” has worked her way firmly into his heart—and his bed.

Also, join the entire Quantum team at the company’s vineyard in Napa for Hayden and Addie’s wedding!

Contains the full TAME edition in the back for those who want all the romance with a less scorching heat level!

Review

3.5 fun, sexy stars stars!

Book #7 in the Quantum series and, as with all of the other books in this series, I have been so excited to get my hands this one. I love the Quantum world, and love diving back into this series which features a group of Hollywood hotshots who own their own production company…. and their own sex clubs. They are best friends who share similar kinks, and one by one they are each falling in love.

Emmett Burke is the Chief Counsel for the Quantum group. Having grown up with Flynn (hero of books #1-3) and Hayden (hero of book #4), he is the best of friends with his colleagues, and there is nothing more important to him in his life than his friends and his job.

Leah is the ex-roommate of Natalie (heroine of books #1-3) who moved from NYC to LA to take up a job as Marlowe’s personal assistant. She has had a rough life, but she loves her work and has been openly accepted into the Quantum circle, and she is relishing in her new life… and that includes ogling and daydreaming about the delectable Emmett.

I want to lick him. I want to strip him naked and lick every hill and valley of his muscular body. I want to know if all his muscles are as big as the ones on his arms. I want to ride him like a cowgirl. And then I want to ride him like a reverse cowgirl.

Me and Emmett Burke? That is so going to happen.

Serious, uptight Emmett is definitely attracted to Leah, but he does his best to ignore it. Not only is he a one-night-only, complication-free man, but he doesn’t want the complication of getting involved with somebody from work. He is also ten years older that Leah and he has certain kinks that he doesn’t want to expose her to. It’s best that he keep his distance… until an unfortunate accident puts them in seriously close proximity and then it’s all on.

“I’ll give you one night.”
She rolls her full bottom lip between her teeth.
“But I have conditions.”
“What conditions?”
“We do it my way or not at all. I’m in charge. And you don’t tell anyone. It’ll happen once, and that’ll be the end of this little fixation you have on me. We’re never going to be a couple of live happily ever after. We’re going to fuck and be done with it.

Emmett and Leah agree to one night only in an attempt to assuage their mad lust for each other. But with one touch it’s clear to both of them that it will never be enough, and oh holy God, their chemistry is explosive!  They are literally helpless to resist their attraction, which brings them both to their knees (literally and figuratively). Their irresistible attraction brings an open and honest intimacy between them, and they both begin to open up to each other. And when Emmett reveals his need for dominance and his love of (mild) kink, rather than being turned off, Leah is curious and all kinds of turned on, and the exploration of that….. hot damn!

“Take what you want.”
“You shouldn’t say that to me when you have no idea of the full extent of what I want.”
“Tell me.”
He moves so he’s on top of me, the heavy weight of him pinning me to the bed. “I want everything.”
“Okay.”
“You don’t know what everything entails.”
“I assume you’ll show me?”
He pauses for a long, breathless moment, staring down at me in the fierce, intense way of his, before he appears to make some sort of decision. “Yeah, I’ll show you.”

Leah is an absolute riot! Bold, sassy, confident and absolutely filterless, when she decides to go after Emmett, she does so openly and determinedly. She holds nothing back from him, letting it all out there, and I love her brave boldness.

“Have you ever been in love?” she asks.
The question startles me, and I debate whether I should lie or tell the truth. I go with the truth. “Once.”
“What happened?”
What didn’t happen? “Didn’t work out.”
“I’ve only been in love once, too.”
Don’t ask. Don’t ask. “What happened?”…
“I don’t know yet. I’m waiting to see how it’ll work out.
I choke on the wine. Son of a bitch.

And she brings out a sense of playfulness in Emmett that we haven’t seen before, and that he didn’t even realise still existed. She brings him to life, and I just love the way that he embraces it.

“Look, I like you. I haven’t made any secret of that. This was fun tonight, but I don’t want to be here if I’m not wanted.”
“I believe there was ample evidence of the fact that you’re wanted earlier.”
She shrugs. “That was awesome, but since then, you’ve been kinda…bitchy.”
… “
Bitchy?” I ask in my most sinister tone, the one that has no effect whatsoever on her.
She looks me dead in the eye, fearless and gorgeous. “Yep.”
“Telling a Dom he’s bitchy can get a little sub in a lot of trouble.”
“What kind of trouble?” she asks, her eyes glittering with excitement.

It’s a fantastic dynamic, and so much fun and there are a lot of laughs as the two of them figure it all out. But how will they handle things when it all begins to get real? Neither of them have really done the relationship thing, and their deepening feelings for each other open up all kinds of wounds and fears. There are a few surprises along the way as they both react to the shift in things between them, but on the whole it’s an easy, natural and fast-moving ride for them, as they revel in all that they are experiencing together, and it’s so much fun to watch, with lots of steamy time and romance, and a surprising amount of swoon.

“Hold on to me. Don’t ever let go.”
“I won’t let go. I’ll never let go.”

Of course the rest of the Quantum group are a big part of the action, watching with rapt interest as Emmet and Leah finally act on their attraction, and there’s some progression for their stories – most notably for Hayden and Addie as the time has finally come for their wedding. And there’s something brewing for both Marlow and Sebastian, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for what I’m hoping will come from that particular storyline.

I really enjoyed this book. It was lots of fun and I loved seeing Emmett and Leah’s surprising romance play out.

3.5 stars.
