This novella is one for the Royal fans.  The story of Gideon and Savannah has been hinted at throughout the series, and this gives us glimpses into them together, shifting between the past and the present as we see moments of their relationship before it all fell apart, and then Gideon’s beautifully romantic grand gestures to win back the love of his life.

Gideon and Sav have an interesting dynamic.  They got together in high school when Gideon was a senior and Savannah an eager young sophomore, already desperately dreamy over the eldest Royal.  They fell hard for each other, but family pressures and bad decisions tore them apart.  They have spent three years harbouring their anger and doing their best to make each other hurt, but now that Savannah is preparing to join Gideon at college he knows that it’s time to stop the games.

No matter how much distance or how many bodies we put between us, there’s still a draw. We can’t deny our past and our connection no matter how hard we try. But, when we come together, we cause each other immeasurable pain.

“You’re my true love.”
She halts suddenly and spins to face me. I stop, too. Her hand whips out and slaps me hard. I reach up and palm my cheek.
“I’m not sorry,” She fumes.
A slow smile spreads across my face. It burns, but it’s the first time I’ve felt alive in years. She may hate me, but Christ, that means there’s love just on the other side of that thin, thin line.
I rub my cheek. “Good to have you back, baby.”

The novella reads more like cut scenes rather than a continuous, flowing story, but I loved getting to see all that is going on between these two as Gideon fights hard to get his girl back.

“Don’t let me go this time,” I murmur against his sweat-slicked skin.
“I won’t. I won’t ever. I love you, Savannah.” He braces himself above me, his arms shaking from the effort. “From the moment I saw you, my heart was yours. Please tell me you’ll take me back.”

It’s a quick read, and a sweet one, and I really enjoyed getting to see more of the Royal family and their mysterious eldest sibling.  Definitely a must-read for fans!

3 stars!
