Blurb

When we were eleven, Oliver Ford Pemberton dared me to jump off a barn roof. He said you couldn’t break a leg from a 12-foot-jump.

He lied.

(You can also break a collarbone, which served him right as far as I was concerned.)

I wish I could say it was the last dare I ever took from him, the last bet I ever made with him, the last time I ever trusted Oliver Ford Pemberton.

But it wasn’t.

Because he had the nerve to grow up gorgeous, charming, and sexy. And as we got older, the dares only got dirtier—and the betting stakes higher—until finally, he left me in pieces. I swore I’d never talk to him again.

But twenty years after I took that flying leap, he’s back in my life, daring me to risk everything for him: my job, my self-worth, and my heart.

How many chances does true love deserve?

Review

3.75 second-chance stars!

After reading Irresistible I fell in love with the Sawyer family and couldn’t wait to get my hands on Chloe’s story. Undeniable is an emotional second-chance romance that has just the right amount of angst, steam, fun, and feels, and I quickly devoured it.

Chloe and Oliver’s mothers were best friends and thus they too were destined to be friends. Although, friends may not be the best word to describe Chloe and Oliver. They were more like frenemies letting their competitive sides take over. They were always daring each other to do crazy things and they tried to best the other every chance they got. However, as they got older things started to shift and just when they started to become more, everything ended up falling apart.

We’d had our ups and downs, but our chemistry was undeniable. We knew exactly how to light one another on fire in every way, good and bad. But that weekend—that weekend—had made me believe we were soul mates. I honestly thought we’d spend the rest of our lives together. I thought I’d been wrong about him.

Now, years later, Chloe is in for a surprise when her parents suggest a partnership with Oliver to help her get her distillery up and running. Only, it’s not a happy surprise. Her parents have no idea working with Oliver would stir up the past and bring with it all of the emotions too. Chloe isn’t ready to see Oliver again but it may just be what she needs to make her dreams come true.

I am a sucker for second-chance romances and I love that this story flips from past to present so that we live everything that Chloe and Oliver go through. It makes it more real and it was definitely emotional. I loved experiencing a childhood friendship grow to more only to be ripped apart and ruined. I desperately wanted to know what went down and how they were going to fix it.

From the moment they see each other again things are tense especially since Chloe has a weak spot for all things Oliver no matter how much she wishes it wasn’t true. He has a way of convincing her to do things and she never could never resist him. They have always had a connection and when they are together they are explosive. The sexual tension is well written and the sexy times are hot.

When they are all in they are really good together but it takes a little time to get there. In the past Oliver has let Chloe down and now that he is back in her life, she wants to trust him again. But Oliver is hiding something that could make him lose her forever and I was desperate to know what it was. I needed to see how his secret was going to play out and I couldn’t stop reading.

Undeniable has everything I want from a second-chance romance – young love, betrayal, angst, forgiveness, and of course second chances – and I really enjoyed it; however, it was not without a few frustrations that centered mostly around Oliver.  I know it is a second-chance romance but I think he was given too many chances. Some of his actions were awful and it took him longer than I wanted to figure out his shit, hurting Chloe too many times to have her take him back time after time. Towards the end I was nervous that Oliver wouldn’t make it up to Chloe but I will say that when he finally does, he is super swoony, romantic, and forgivable. Add in an epilogue that is just what they needed and I was grinning from ear-to-ear.

Overall, Chloe and Oliver’s journey was a long, bumpy road but the happiness they find is worth the pain.

We ran hot and cold, but we had history. We’d shared some unforgettable experiences, both painful and pleasurable. But beneath all the surface-level ups and downs was a bond that couldn’t be broken.

Fueled by pent-up lust and scotch, we stumbled into Oliver’s room and tore at each other’s clothes. It was hot and rough and a little bit violent, as if we were furious we hadn’t been able to keep our hands to ourselves and wanted to take it out on one another’s bodies. We pushed and pulled and growled and grasped. We called each other names and cursed viciously. We knocked over a lamp and ripped Oliver’s shirt.

When we finally exploded together, Oliver had me up against the door, and if our yelling didn’t wake the entire floor, then the pounding must have. I’d have bruises for days.

Afterward, we collapsed on the bed, naked and sweaty and exhausted.

“Oh my God,” I said. “I can’t believe we did that.”

“I know. Me either.”

“I think I pulled a muscle.”

“I think you bit me. Am I bleeding?”

I laughed. “No, but I hope you’re not seeing anyone. If you are, she’s going to wonder about all those scratches on your back.”

“I’m not seeing anyone.” He paused. “Are you?”

“No.”

Neither of us moved for several minutes. When I caught myself falling asleep, I sat up. “I should go.”

“Why? Just stay here.”

I looked down at him. “You want me to stay?”

“Yeah.” He opened his eyes. In the low light, they almost looked black instead of blue. “Spend the night with me.”

I waited for it—the dirty joke, the excuse, the subtle dig—the reason he’d toss out for asking me to stay. It couldn’t just be that he wanted me here.

But he didn’t say anything more. He just reached out and covered my hand with his.

I looked at our hands for a moment, and a thousand memories came rushing back. Some good, some bad, but all us. I felt close to him, and I didn’t want to leave. “Okay. I’ll stay.”

“Good.” He took off his watch and put it on the nightstand.
