4.5 stars!

What a fantastic read!  Ana Huang’s new Kings of Sin series starts off with an arranged marriage/billionaire romance that is a fabulously decadent read, full of chemistry, intensity and passion – in all of its forms.

Vivian Lau is a successful event planner, and a dedicated daughter who is determined to make her family proud. So, when her newly-wealthy, social-climbing father arranges a marriage for her, she’s unhappy but resigned, knowing that this was most likely her destiny.

Ruthless billionaire CEO Dante Russo is all about control. He is cold and seemingly soulless, yet when Vivian’s father finds his one weakness, he exploits it for all he can, blackmailing Dante into marrying his daughter. Silently furious, Dante has little choice but to agree to the marriage, all the while planning his escape and his revenge on the man who put him into this position.

Sparks fly when Dante and Vivian meet. Sure, there’s attraction there, but they’re both so horrified by their engagement, that they instantly hate each other, and all of that anger makes for an epic start to their chemistry-filled relationship.

Her presence awoke an unwanted heat in my gut. My body had never reacted so viscerally to anyone before, and I didn’t even fucking like her.

I loved watching these two battle and bicker. Dante is a force of nature, but Vivian is just as strong, and determined not to be ignored or treated badly. She’s fierce and bold, and gives back just as good as she gets, and I freaking love her! And she needs all the strength she has to deal with Dante’s disdain and grumpiness. Their softening towards each other comes slowly, with little hints of more, and I lapped up every little moment.

“We should attempt to get along,” she said breathlessly. “Get to know each other. Maybe go on a date or two.”
Some of the earlier tension dissipated.
“Are you asking me out,
mia cara?” A smile touched my lips at her glare.
“I told you to stop calling me that.”
“Yes, you did.”
I was going to call her
mia cara every chance I got.

The harder Vivian fights to break through Dante’s walls, the higher the tension becomes, and I was desperate for something to happen!

“You live in my head all the fucking time, even when I don’t want you to…” His palm slid to my hip, where his fingers dug grooves into my skin. “And God, I want to punish you for driving me so damn crazy. Every. Single. Day.”

It’s a slow burn that absolutely sizzles, and when all of that tension breaks… holy freaking damn, it’s hot! Intense, explosive and super sexy, the connection between these two is off the charts, and the fact that there is still animosity between them makes it all the more passionate and raw, and so exciting when they start to realise that there is more to their relationship than either of them anticipated.

“We’re only together because of a deal you made with my father … Why do you care?”
“I don’t know!” The force of his reply stunned me into silence.
Dante’s granite mask cracked, revealing the torment underneath.
“I don’t know why I care. I just know I
do, and I hate it.” Self-loathing coated his voice.
“I hate the idea of you touching anyone else, or anyone else touching you. I hate that other people can make you laugh in a way I can’t. I hate how I feel around you, like you’re the only person that can make me lose control when I.
Don’t. Lose Control.
Every word, every step brought him closer until my back pressed against the wall and the heat of his body enveloped mine.
“But I do.” His voice dropped, turning ragged. “With you.”

Gah! The intensity of everything between them seriously gave me shivers.

From strangers to enemies to friends to lovers, each stage brings a different dynamic to their relationship, and I loved watching them react, and slowly come to accept their changing feelings for each other. The passion between them burns as hatred and anger, to sizzling sexy time, and into intense emotion, and I was right there with them for all of it, relishing every moment.

What we had wasn’t soft, emotional sex, at least not on the surface. But beneath the rough hands and filthy words, a storm of emotions had blown through and upended our entire relationship.

And who would have thought that such a grumpy, callous a-hole would make me swoon so damn hard?! OMG, Dante rocked my world and had my heart pounding as we see the romantic hero emerge. He has so much to figure out about himself, and a lot to learn, but he accepts the challenge like the stubborn perfectionist that he is, and his growth as a person is beautiful, real and raw. It was amazing to see him fall so damn hard.

Somehow, somewhere along the way, I’d fallen in love …
Not like or lust.
Love, in all its terrifying, unpredictable, unwanted glory.

It’s not an easy ride, and there are ups and downs along the way as they figure it all out. They both have challenges to face, and there are mistakes made along the way, but they are both strong, stubborn and intelligent, and the result is a gorgeous story of growth, standing up for yourself and figuring out what you want, and an absolutely incredible love story.

I loved this book. I love these characters, and the world that Huang has created among the uber-rich of New York City. There is a bit of crossover with the Twisted series, which was awesome, and we are introduced to the characters of the next book, which looks like lots of fun. I am so excited to dive further into this series.

Such a great read – 4.5 stars.
