The second book in the Knife’s Edge, Alaska series, this is a fantastically exciting and suspenseful story with intrigue, emotion, and a gorgeous love story. It kept me hooked from start to finish and I loved it!
Though technically a standalone, there’s a lot of crossover and storyline carry-over from the first book, plus there are massive spoilers for the first book, so I would recommend reading these ones in order.
Christian Osprey is one of four brothers who have returned to their remote hometown of Knife’s Edge following their military service. Christian is the wild loner of the crew. He spends more time in the wilderness than he does inside, and other than his faithful wolf-dog, he’s more comfortable alone than in the company of others. But the town’s beloved tavern owner, Amka, keeps him coming back.
Amka has a fascinating story, content in her small-town life, but trapped in an engagement to a man she resents. When her life is threatened, Christian comes from nowhere to save the day, and when she becomes the target of repeated attacks, he steps in to protect her. All of the close proximity and Christian’s long-time crush leads to a slow burn romance which is sexy and emotional, and I loved these two together!
Christian is such a great character! He is quiet and withdrawn, but he is fiercely protective, has a huge heart and he cares deeply for the people in his life. He is a source of calm and strength for Amka, and I loved watching her fall completely under his spell. Amka herself is fierce and brave, and she handles her situation with maturity and resilience. Christian is there for her through all of it, and she accepts him for exactly who he is, and their coming together is so gorgeous to watch.
All the while, danger is swirling around them and once again Zanetti had me guessing, trying to pull all of the threads together, and I was still surprised when all is revealed. She writes a complex suspense story, and I loved it!
The books for the remaining brothers are set-up well, and I’m so excited to continue on with this series.
I loved this one – 4 stars.
I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Ava Flynn, and she does a great job. I recommend listening to this one.
