The first book in the Knife’s Edge, Alaska series, this is an exciting, intriguing and suspenseful read with a great romance, and I really enjoyed this one!

Ophelia is an FBI Agent sent to the small town of Knife’s Edge, Alaska, to investigate a murder. She is met by local man, Brock Osprey, an ex-Navy Seal, and one of four brothers who have returned to their remote home-town following their military service. Their guardian is the man whose murder Ophelia is in town to investigate, and from the moment she arrives, it’s clear that the townsfolk have secrets, including the four Osprey brothers.

There is action and suspense, and as the body count increases, Ophelia herself becomes a target, and I was madly guessing at what was going on. The story twists and turns as the danger grows and I didn’t put the pieces together until the big reveal, and I loved watching the story unfold.

And through it all, Brock is by Ophelia’s side. He is beloved by the town, who consider him their Sheriff even though he doesn’t want the job (such a funny thread through the story), and he steps in to help Ophelia with her investigations. He’s a gruff mountain man who is brave and protective, and he doesn’t mess around, so when sparks start to fly, he doesn’t let anything stand in his way, and he goes after what he wants. The romance isn’t sweet or swoony, that’s not who Brock and Ophelia are, but it’s sexy and full of chemistry, and I loved watching them come together.

This story is a great start to the series. Alongside Ophelia we are introduced to the town, the people who live in it, and all its quirks and traditions. Set in the Alaskan winter, the wild danger of the landscape is really well written, with an almost otherworldly feeling, and I happily got lost in the feeling of wilderness. But it’s the Osprey brothers that really make the story. Close, but very different, they are all broody and secretive but supreme badasses, each of them dealing with their own challenges, and I’m so excited to read more about them.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the setting and the characters, it was intriguing and kept my interest the whole way through, and there was just enough romance to keep my sappy little heart happy. I’m going straight on to the next in the series.

3.5 stars.

I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Ava Flynn, and she does a great job. I definitely recommend listening to this one.
