Oh, those Montgomery men. Be still my heart, they are so, so amazing! And I have just completely fallen for Caleb.

“For the love of all that’s holy this man is pure, unadulterated sex on a fucking stick.”

Mmmhmm! Middle brother, ex Navy Seal, and somewhat quieter than the rest of his siblings, Caleb has flown under the radar in previous books, but the chemistry between him and Brynna has been building steadily throughout the series, and I have been so excited to get to their book!

Brynna is the cousin of Stacy (wife of Isaac Montgomery), and came into the series earlier in the series when she very quietly and mysteriously arrived in town with her adorable twin daughters, Maddie and Josie. This book starts by taking us back to witness the moment that has Brynna and her girls running to the safety of Seattle and the Montgomery clan in the first place. Back to the present day, the danger from her past is now a very real threat, and Caleb rocks up on her doorstep, announcing that he is moving in to protect the three of them. Being in such close proximity, Brynna and Caleb can’t deny the attraction between them, but with Caleb in full-on protector mode, it is Brynna who is initially the aggressor, and I LOVED that!

“Don’t look at me like that”
My eyes rise to his. “Like what?”
“Like you want me to kiss you.”
“I do want you to kiss me.”

Brynna is sensational! I absolutely love her! She is kind, brave, confident and funny. Her girls are her absolute world, and she’s a fantastic mother to them. And I love the fact that she is prepared to stand up to Caleb and fight for what she wants. Caleb is determined to keep his distance in order to protect Bryn and her girls. But he is definitely feeling the attraction!

“Caleb?” My heart is beating hard, and I’m still pissed at him. He’s smiling … but when his eyes meet mine, he sobers.
“Yeah.”
“Don’t fucking touch me like that again unless you plan to finish what you start.”
His eyes go hard and his jaw tightens. Before I can turn and walk away, he grabs my wrist and pulls me against him, pinning my arms between our bodies.
“Let’s get this straight, Brynna. I want you so fucking bad my teeth ache. I’ve wanted you for months. But you’re part of my family, and I’m supposed to be protecting you. Dropping my guard and fucking you into the mattress is not the way to keep any of you whole.”

Hot damn! The UST continues to build as Brynna doesn’t hide her feelings, and Caleb continues to battle his attraction. And family night with the rest of the clan is freaking hilarious as they continue to dance around each other.

I drop my face to my hands and scrub hard.
“I wish I had your boobs,” I hear Sam announce and raise my head to see who she’s talking to.
Of course, she’s talking to Bryn.
“Right,” she smirks and takes another bite of brownie.
“Dude, I do!” And just like that, Sam saunters across the room and cups Brynna’s tit in her palm. “See? You have the perfect boobs. Stace, have you felt her boobs?”
Just kill me. Put a bullet in my head and end the agony.
“Oh yeah,” Stacey waves her off. “She has great tits.”
She has amazing tits.
“I wanna feel!” Jules bounces over and joins in.
“Give me more chocolate and you can touch all you want.” Brynna laughs and then glances over at me. “This is the most action I’ve had in months.”
“Motherfuckingsonofawhore.” I grumble.

And when they finally cave into the passion between them, it’s absolutely sensational! Caleb is hot, hot, hot, and the two of them together are just dynamite! And not just in the bedroom. They make a fantastic couple, and I love how things between them develop as their attraction deepens and becomes so much more.

“It would destroy me if you or those babies were hurt, Brynna. You are necessary to my survival, goddamn it.”

And it’s not just Caleb and Brynna’s relationship that we get to enjoy, but also Caleb’s relationship with Maddie and Josie. I swear, almost every interaction he had with those little girls absolutely melted me! Every. Single. Time. The twins are so adorable, and Caleb is amazing with them. And the bond that develops between them is beautiful!

But Bryn’s problems are not the only ones they have to face. Caleb has been left damaged by his combat experiences, and the extent of this is revealed in some truly heartbreaking scenes that surprised and devastated me, leading to an emotional climax that had me a bit teary. But, of course, there is a fantastic happy ending which, again, had me a bit teary, leaving me swooning madly and desperately wanting more.

“God, she can destroy me with just a look. I’ve faced horrors that no man or woman should have to see and faced them without qualms, but this woman and her two daughters bring me to my knees.”

The rest of the family are involved along the way, with lots of time spent with both the boys and the girls. There is some fantastic progression in some of their individual stories, and a pretty huge twist for the rest of the series that I didn’t see coming, but I really liked it!

Once again Kristen Proby has given us a gorgeously emotional romance with plenty of steam and lots of laugh out loud moments with her ever-growing cast of characters. Her writing has evolved really beautifully since the first book of the series, and I find myself getting more drawn into these books as I read each one. My love affair with this series continues, and I can’t wait for more with Matt and Nic.

4.5 stars.
