“There were days that I would have exchanged a year of my life just to touch you one more time.”

4.5 sweet, swoony and sexy stars

Another beautifully sexy and sweet read from Kristen Proby, and another reason why I love this series so much! This one is a second chance romance featuring Matt Williams, younger brother of Luke and Samantha.

Matt has been fairly quiet in the series so far. He’s a joker, and a massive flirt, with hints dropped about his manwhoring ways. But Matt is not as slutty as his siblings and friends think he is. Sure, he’s not a saint, but his aversion to relationships is all because he is still in love with his high school sweetheart, Meredith.

“Once upon a time, she was everything.”

Mark and Meredith had crazy love for each other, they were each other’s worlds, but it all fell apart when Meredith broke Mark’s heart and left town to pursue her dancing career without him. Ten years later and Meredith is back in town. They run into each other, and the spark between them is definitely still there!

I still think of her as mine. After all this time, when I think of Meredith, she’s my Meredith. Irrational? Yes.
Stupid? Most definitely.
But I don’t give a fuck.

And Mark, in all of his smoothness isn’t prepared to waste any time.

“We’re not friends, Mark,” I reply sadly. “We’re strangers with memories.”
He nods and looks down at my phone still in his grasp. He passes it back to me with a half-smile that makes my stomach and thighs clench. “Let’s see what we can do about that. My number is in there. The next step is up to you.”

The reconnection between Mark and Meredith (or M & M as they refer to themselves – bless) is beautiful. It’s fast but it’s realistic, and they’re both honest with each other about the impact that their years apart have had on them, and about how they’re feeling in the present.

“You will never know how much I wished for you.”

They tease, they laugh, they have fun, and their love for each other is still very evident. And then there’s this…

“Trust me, I’m going to fuck you. I’m going to fuck you blind, but I’m not going to fuck you right now, baby.” He strokes my hair and nudges my nose with his. “I’ve waited such a long time for this moment. I’m going to make long, slow love to you. I’m going to explore every inch of this amazing body. I have to relearn you.”

*faints*

I love Mark! He’s a great guy, not too intense or overbearing, just full of love for his girl and determined to have a life with her. Faithful, supportive, and understanding of what Meredith has gone through, and her occasional freak out moments, he is pretty much perfect man. And with their romance full tender moments, lots of feels and some smokin’ sexy time, you can tell that these two are absolutely meant to be.

As always, the characters from previous books all play a huge part in the story, and the scenes where they are all together are definitely a highlight – particularly the now-regular drunken girls night out. Always a feature of each of these books, this one had me laughing out loud at the antics of this crazy bunch.

“Jesus, my woman is doing body shots with your wife,” Leo says to Caleb, his voice low and reverent.
Caleb simply nods silently.

There are some beautiful moments for Sam and Leo, and the introduction of a new member to the gang – Meredith’s BFF, Jax, who is also intensely protective of his girl, and has some stellar moments.

“Is it the sex you’re worried about?” he asks with a smart-assy frown. “Here, I’ll help. Sex 101.”
“Stop it.” I giggle and kick out at him, missing him by a good eight feet.
“How to give a hand job.”
“Stop talking!” I am laughing hard now…
“Step one: use your mouth.”

I loved this book! It is a great, easy read (I read it in one sitting), following Kristen Proby’s proven formula of sweet, sexy and lots of fun. There is a little moment of stupid, but I didn’t take it too seriously, and it was enough to provide a bit of a dramatic finish. Mark and Meredith are functional, in love and absolutely beautiful together, and I loved their story.

4.5 stars.
