A one-night stand gone wrong?

Michael
Being traded after fighting with your coach on air isn’t exactly a good look.
With one mistake under my belt, I knew I needed to focus on the game and nothing else.
But everything changed when I went to pick up my niece and came face-to-face with my very pregnant one-night stand from six months ago.

Jillian
Two pink lines changed all my plans.
So did the guy I had a one-night stand with, a man who made me laugh and smile, a guy who I called to share my unexpected news with, only to find out his number was no longer in service.
Once more letdown by the opposite sex, I figured I was doing this on my own.
Then one day, I was staring into the eyes of the man I hated, the father of my baby.

All it took was only one mistake to change everything.

4.5 stars!

What a fun read! A surprise pregnancy story that is sweet, funny, sexy and swoony, with one of my favourite book families along for the ride. This is a gorgeously functional, angst-free romance, and I loved it!

This is the story of Michael Horton. Michael is the son of Max and Allison (from Something So Irresistible), and he’s all grown up and playing in the NHL like his father, uncles and grandfather before him… and a handful of cousins. After a bad experience with his coach, he has been traded to Dallas, to play on the same team as his cousin, Cooper, and hopefully get the fresh start to his career he so badly needs.

On his first night in town he meets a woman who has just been stood up by a blind date. Jillian didn’t even want to go on the date, but she was talked into it, and while her night looked like it was going to be an absolute disaster, she ended up being rescued by Michael, and the two of them share drinks, banter, and one steamy as hell night together.

Random circumstances result in them unwillingly losing touch, but five months later Michael is picking up his young nieces from school and wouldn’t you know it… Jillian is their teacher. And she’s pregnant.

It’s a fun set up, and it’s so well done, and the story unfolds beautifully as Michael declares himself immediately ‘in’, and works hard to make up for the time he missed, and to prepare for the big changes coming their way.

“This is changing everything.”
“Not changing. Making us better.”

It’s such a gorgeous story and I loved watching Michael and Jillian find their way together. Michael is such a force when going after what he wants (Jillian included), but their romance is a slow build, full of chemistry, beautifully sweet moments, and an attraction that creates fantastic sexual tension. And, of course, there’s also a healthy dose of sexy time that is blisteringly hot.

I loved these characters. Jillian is smart, sensible, strong yet vulnerable, and so relatable, and of course Michael is a dream. He’s a good guy with a huge heart, completely alpha of course, and his sense of wonder over his unborn child is just gorgeous.

One of the highlights for me was seeing the beautiful relationship between Michael and his Dad, Max. Max has always been a fave of mine in this series, and seeing him in the role of loving, protective and supportive father absolutely stole my heart. I almost teared up at one point! But along with all of that love comes a heavy dose of the ridiculous as the family descends, bringing laugh-out-loud hilarity as they insert themselves into the situation, and OMG, I loved it!

“What the hell is wrong with you?” She looks at me, then looks at my dad. “What the hell is wrong with him? Didn’t you teach him the whole condom thing?”
My father just looks at her shocked. “First off, we had this talk with him together.” He points at my mother. “And second, I think he’s smart enough to know what to do with his penis.” He looks at me. “You did know what to do?”
I get up. “Of course we used protection, but it’s like…” I run my hands through my hair. “It’s not a hundred percent.”
“You know what is a hundred percent?” Matthew says, leaning forward. “A baby.”
“Your wisdom sometimes is just groundbreaking,” my father says to him sarcastically. “Why are you even here?”

And not just the parents! Michael and Jillian both have overly-intrusive, sassy sisters who also bring a lot of laughs to the story.

“They are making out on the couch,” I hear Julia say from behind me. “Looks hot and heavy. Should I break it up?”
“She’s already pregnant. He can’t do more damage than that,” I hear Alex say.

There is build-up there for the final two books of the series, and I am so excited for the stories that are to come.

I loved this book, loved being back int this world with these characters, and finished this book with a huge smile on my face

4.5 stars!

About the Author

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…
