When she agreed to spend her last summer before college at her cousins’ house in Ireland, Charli Moretti never expected to meet anyone like Rhys Doyle. He was the first boy to ever make her heart flutter, and though their lives followed different paths after that fateful summer, she always remembered him as her first everything.
Sixteen years later, after a tumultuous divorce from her abusive husband, Charli is returning to Ireland a shell of the woman she once was. Life has tried to break her many times over, and now all she wants is a fresh start and an even keel. She’ll be working as an accountant at her uncle’s hotel, but what she doesn’t know is that Rhys Doyle works there, too. He’s the head of security, in fact, and he’s no longer the teenage boy she once knew.
With the rumours flying around that he and his fiancée just broke off their engagement, Charli decides it’s best to give Rhys his space. She knows personally how hard it can be when a relationship ends. The problem is, she can’t seem to stop running into him, and the more she gets to know the man he’s become the more those old feelings start to return.

5 stars!
Quiet Longing is the second book in the Quiet Love series and like the first book, it is fantastic. It took one of my favorite tropes – second chance romance – and nailed it. Charli and Rhys’s love story is beautifully emotive, and I was invested from the moment I met them. They meet when they are teenagers when Charli visits Dublin for the summer, staying with her aunt and uncle, hanging out with her cousins, and working at the hotel owned by her uncle. Rhys is good friends with her cousins and also works at the hotel so they end up spending time with each other. Neither have the money that her extended family does, and they can relate to each other in more ways then one. They fall into a passionate romance that ends when Charli goes back home to college.
After losing touch, Charli find herself back in Dublin to pick up the pieces of her life. It’s been sixteen years and she doesn’t expect to see Rhys, but when he arrives for dinner at her uncle’s house, all the emotion from the past rushes back. However, Charli isn’t in a position to start a new relationship and Rhys is fresh out of one of his own. Still, because she is the lead accountant at her uncles hotel, the same hotel where Rhys is head of security, they end up once again spending time together and what follows is a gorgeous second chance romance that has become one of my favorites.
The first love that grows between Charli and Rhys at teens is a frenzy of passion and new emotions. I felt their love grow and believed their feelings. Both are going through family things over that summer and I loved the support they provided for each other, especially Charli’s support of Rhys as he was going through the awful things his mom and him were dealing with. It’s crushing to see them separate at the end of the summer, and though I had hoped they would stay in contact with each other. It’s sad when they don’t and years go by.
Now, they are back in the same area and it’s Charli that needs support. Charli is fresh out of an abusive marriage and is trying to get her life back. It’s tragic to see the changes in Charli and I wanted desperately to see her transform back into her old self. It’s a hard journey but Rhys is there every step of the way. The unconditional love and support Rhys gives her as they become friends again and then more is beautiful. The patience he has while she grows and learns how to live again is everything.
There is no doubt that these two still have amazing chemistry even after years apart. I loved seeing them reconnection through both their eyes. It’s intense and once again passionate, but it’s more than first love. Their love proves to be a forever love and I was along for the ride when they fall for the second time.
Overall, I loved loved loved this story. It’s a wonderfully developed second chance romance that has left a mark on my heart. It’s a fantastic addition to the Quiet Love series that is definitely becoming a favorite series. I fell in love first with Maggie and Shay from Quiet Types, and now I have fallen for Charli and Rhys. All of these characters are amazing and I cannot wait for the third book, Quietly Yours, featuring Jonathan, who we’ve seen in both books. I am intrigued with him and can’t wait for him to find his love.
